Description

Learn how to layout and create your own 8.5 x 11″ ‘artist’s annual’ art catalog through Amazon’s KDP publishing platform, using your computer and Word.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

  • set up an account at Amazon for publishing your annual
  • create a cover image
  • layout the interior
  • upload your files
  • order your author’s/artist’s proof
  • correct your issues (requires a second session once the proof arrives)

Once you’ve created your catalog and ordered your proof, when the proof arrives you’ll come back to the studio for one-on-one help with correcting any issues.

What You’ll Need to Bring

  • laptop computer with WORD (for the interior) and ADOBE Photoshop (if you want to create your own covers or edit your photos of artwork during the class)
  • all of the image files either stored on your computer or on a USB drive (300 dpi at least)

Pre-requisites

You’ll need to have an Amazon account, or create one here: https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/

If you don’t have Photoshop or want to create your own covers, I will do the cover for you, but it’s a separate service. Email to ask or inquire during the class. Amazon does have a built in cover creator you can use as an alternative.

Artist’s Annual

A page from Madison Woods' annual book of art. Take her class to learn how to make your own artist's annual catalog.
One of the spreads to show artwork and description.

Your copies, if your book is in the same amount of page count range as mine is (40 pages) will cost between 4 and 5 USD. This is too much to pass them out like business cards, of course, but inexpensive enough to give one to your collectors each year and get a few copies to keep on hand to sell in your online or brick-and-mortar stores.

You’re also free to list them for sale at large on Amazon, too. If you’d like to also create an ebook, you can do that too. Layout for an ebook involves a few changes that I won’t go into for this class, but you can experiment until it looks right to you.

It costs nothing at all to sign up at Amazon as an author and create these books. If any of them do sell to the public through their platform, you’ll earn a royalty.
