In a Sea of Swirling Air
Gloria drops her leaves
litter like silk puddles
around her on the ground
She’s nearly nude now
The wind rolls in like waves
breakers on hilltops
It spills, crashes into the valley
I feel like a mermaid
In a sea of swirling air
My inspiration for this piece was the wind during autumn here in the Wild Ozark holler. You can hear the wind coming from a long ways away. The volume builds as it approaches, crests the top of the hill, and then it whooshes through the trees as it flows into the valley. When this happens, it stirs the leaves all around and they swirl.
This 5 x 7″ painting is on watercolor paper which has been permanently mounted onto a birch cradleboard. It is varnished for UV/environmental protection and framed without glass, with a sample of the pigment rock attached to the frame.
All of my prints are processed in house with a professional giclée art printer using archival inks. The paper is archival watercolor paper for high quality prints. This one is only available as a 5 x 7″ print, as that is the size of the original.
