Orchid Walk | See the orchids of Wild Ozark

$45.00

Orchid Walks are booked throughout the year, but to see blooms you’ll need to be flexible with dates. Book a walk to see the orchids of Wild Ozark. Most of the blooms are in May, and they don’t last very long. Check with me before you check out so I can let you know if they’re still blooming if it’s the flowers you are most interested in seeing. The leaves last a bit longer than the flowers. This listing is live while at least the leaves can be seen and I try to update below as to what stage they’re…

Description

All orchids of Wild Ozark bloom at different times. I’ll update here with pics of each and how they look for the various dates scheduled for the walks. Even without blooms, the leaves of Rattlesnake plantain are gorgeous and worth seeing.

  • Showy Orchid (Galearis spectabilis)
  • Lily-leaved Twayblade (Liparis lilifolia)
  • Adam and Eve orchid (Aplectrum hyemale)
  • Rattlesnake plantain (Goodyera pubescens)
  • Cranefly orchid (Tipularia discolor)

Other orchids we could possibly encounter include Lady’s Tresses (Spiranthes cernua) and Three Birds orchid (Triphora trianthophora).

NOTE: I cannot guarantee that the orchids you want to see are present at the time you attend. I can’t control things like whether feral pigs have destroyed colonies or destructive weather happens, or how excessive out of season heat or cold may affect them. I AM willing to go out to make a check to see if they are there at the time of your booking or possibly the day before arrival (depending on my own schedule and whether I’m at home), however. If they’re not there at that time, I’ll refund your payment.

Photos of Progression During Season

Mid March

Cranefly, Adam and Eve and Rattlesnake Plantain orchid leaves are present (they are usually present from Fall to late Spring/early Fall). Flowering should occur in May, but the leaves will no longer be visible at that time.

Early May

The Showy orchids are already blooming this year, and with the rains we’re getting, the flowers may be damaged after last night.

The Tway-blade orchids are just sending up flower stalks as of May 2:

Today I’ll go out to see if the Adam and Eve and Rattlesnake plantain orchids are there.

May 7, 2023

I’ll add an updated photo of the showy orchid this evening.

VIRTUAL Orchid Walks

I have an online course that follows the orchids throughout the seasons. It began this year with the Cranefly, Adam and Eve, and Rattlesnake plantain leaves. As the season progresses, I’ll follow up with all of our orchids here at Wild Ozark as they produce leaves, flower stalks, flowers, and then decline. The community is free to join (until it gains 50 members, then it will go to subscription model), and the Orchid Walk course is $10).
