Do you love the small, reptilian wildlife that make homes in your garden? This is a painting of a skink that came out to visit with me while I was working in mine. When I’m in my garden in spring, skinks, lizards, and even a salamander come out and about courting mates. One of the adult male skinks came right up to me and seemed to be posing for pictures. And that’s where this small painting of a skink began. I literally said to the handsome reptile: “hello, little friend!”

A favorite spot, a favorite light

This location is along our dirt road, a couple of miles from our house. Between the clouds on early mornings, the light shines more brightly on the distant curving hills, and lands to light up the top of the rocks in the foreground. These rocky shores supply some of the rocks I use to make the paints. It was a challenging project to paint rocks using paint made from rocks! This is a study for a larger painting I’ll do later this year.
